Safety Manager

PRINCIPAL DUTIES:

  • Develops and implements regulatory compliance policy, procedures, and guidelines for Grace Pacific LLC and associated business units.
  • Provides strategic leadership regarding all safety matters in the organization.
  • Hire, train, and lead all members of the Safety team.
  • Implements strategies to foster a safety focused culture in an operational environment.
  • Assist HR manager in planning, organizing, administering and supervising aspects of the Company's Workers' Compensation Program, including, but not limited legal representation management, settlement strategies, program-level loss control strategies, internal and external communication practices.
  • Develop, recommend, and implement risk management and compensation policies and procedures; recommend and implement goals and objectives from President's intent and direction.
  • Oversee all aspects of the Company's safety training program, including record retention and qualifications renewal requirements.
  • Assist in the management of occupational injuries/illnesses; investigate or oversee the investigation of claims; develop strategies to handle specific cases in consultation with the appropriate parties; physicians, attorneys, insurance providers, and management teams.
  • Budget preparations and monitor expenditures; determine the extent of the Company's liability; recommend and negotiate claim settlements; establish reserves for anticipated costs on cases.
  • Ensures that industrial and environmental policies and procedures follow regulatory mandates, industry standards, and city, state and federal laws. Oversees the direction of all industrial hygiene activities, including those relating to lead, asbestos inspections, testing and abatement.
  • Oversees the occupational safety program, maintain and track laws and regulations, contract documentations, amendments, and various compliance measures. Develop policies, procedures, and processes to comply with state law, federal law, contract requirements, and various standards.
  • Participates in policy-making meetings chaired by the President and Management Steering Committee review and update policies and procedures are discussed and developed.
  • Plans, assigns, monitors, reviews and evaluates the compliance, safety performed by Departmental Directors, Managers, Employees and makes recommendations regarding compliance and discipline.
  • Represent senior management at various committees, meetings, and seminars.

PRINCIPAL REQUIREMENTS:

Must be able to lift, push, pull, carry up to 40 lbs.

Skills/Knowledge:

Reading: Ability to read and interpret legal documents, government regulations.

Licenses: Valid driver's license and favorable traffic abstract.

Education: Minimum: B.S degree in related field, and ability to possess CSP, ASP, and or CHST

Preferred: master's degree in occupational health and safety, Loss Prevention/Risk Management, Government Affairs, B.S degree in related field.

Experience: Minimum: 8-10 years of safety and health experience.

Preferred: 15 years + experience in Health, Safety with claims analysis and multi-level management experience or an equivalent combination of training and experience. MSHA/OSHA, Workers compensation claims. Incident case management. Experience with state and federal government agencies, Administrative and Accounting principles and methods, including goal setting, program and budget development, work planning and organization.

Principles and procedures of report preparation

Interpret, apply and explain federal, state and local laws, codes, regulations and proceedings, and ensure compliance

Research, analyze, and make sound recommendations relating to workers' compensation claims.

Analyze complex administrative problems, evaluating alternatives, and make creative recommendations

Other: Proficient in MS Word, Excel, Access, Power Point, Lotus Notes; aptitude to learn in-house systems; typing skills to timely complete daily tasks.
