Laboratory Supervisor

PRINCIPAL DUTIES:

Evaluates and provides appropriate training to ensure competency of staff and the quality of products and services per AASHTO and ASTM testing standards.

Helps to provide supervision of the Laboratory and Plant technicians on the island of Oahu.

Responsible for providing supervision on all quality control test reports, recordkeeping (Stonemount Data Base), equipment calibration and verification in accordance with ASTM D3666 (American Society for Testing and Materials – Road and Paving Materials on the island of Oahu.

Responsible for providing supervision and training for the development of mix designs and AMRL proficiency samples at the Puuhale Laboratory.

Performs inspections and/or supervises testing, as necessary, at quarries, AC plants and job sites to ensure that materials produced and received are in conformance with agreements/specifications.

Collects plant, field and laboratory sampling and performs testing of bituminous materials for compliance with the project plans and specifications.

Maintains current knowledge of aggregate, paving, and asphalt plant processes. Evaluates and reviews all technical specifications and makes appropriate recommendations for proper material usage, HMA mixes, and performance.

Assists contractors with quality control – CQC / CQM (Construction Quality Control / Certified Quality Manager) on projects (Federal / FAA) so designated; acts as contractor appointed owner's representative on acceptance of all phases of construction on the project.

PRINCIPAL REQUIREMENTS:

Education: High School or College Diploma preferred

Experience: 10 - 15 years of aggregate and HMA testing experience per AASHTO and ASTM.

Computer Skills: Working knowledge of Word, Excel, Email. Adaptable to in-house software. Keyboarding skills sufficient to complete tasks in a timely manner.

Math: Excellent math aptitude to perform daily tasks and identify errors or questionable data.

Reading: Must be able to read and understand job, equipment, and environmental requirements/specifications/regulations.

Blueprint Reading: Preferred.

Licenses: Valid Hawaii driver's license and favorable traffic abstract.

Certifications: Nuclear Gauge and RSO Certification

Mix Design Certification from the Asphalt Institute for Marshall and Superpave designs

NICET Certifications not required, but must work towards a NICET Level IV.

Army Corps of Engineers CQC / CQM or equivalent

Other: Ability to direct others and ensure completion of tasks in a thorough, accurate and timely manner. Must be at least 21 years of age
