Lab Technician

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

1. Provide Quarry and Ready Mix Management and the Quality Assurance Manager with accurate and prompt data to ensure uniform and quality products. Presents information neatly and professionally, while maintaining proper sampling and testing procedures.

2. Coordinate quality requirements with asphalt suppliers, especially during critical State DOT projects. Keeps Quarry and Ready Mix Management informed of any problems or potential problems.

3. Perform testing in research areas as directed in accordance with established procedures.

4. Maintain a safe, tidy, and efficient test lab area. Maintain testing equipment and pickup truck in good working condition.

5. Sample aggregates from belts and stockpiles. Run gradations, absorptions, moistures, sand equivalent tests, and specific gravity tests. Advise Production personnel in maintaining proper process settings, such as separator damper positioning and material blend ratios.

6. Sample concrete, measure slump, air, unit weight, temperature, and make cylinders or beams for compression/flexural strength testing. Informs Batch Plant Operator of test results; make adjustments to mixes and material accordingly.

7. Provide on-site technical services for projects utilizing high performance mixes and/or value added mixes.

8. Monitor tests being taken by outside testing laboratories for conformance with established test procedures.

9. Observe all Company policies and objectives within functional responsibilities.

10. Obtain and maintain valid certifications:

    • ACI Tech - Level 1

    • Visual Emissions Testing

    • Strength Testing Technician

11. Perform other duties as assigned by Quality Assurance Manager. Obtain Supervisor approval of overtime requirements.
