General Manager, GLP Asphalt

POSITION TITLE: General Manager, GLP Asphalt
DEPARTMENT: Asphalt Hawai'i
LOCATION: O'ahu
REPORTS TO: GPC President, GLP Board of Directors
STATUS: Exempt

PRINCIPAL DUTIES
1. Oversee terminal operations and provide guidance on PMA production, quality control, equipment purchases, scaling and accounting system operation, and employee hiring and discipline.
2. Purchase asphalt binder on the global market and sell it within the mid-Pacific region. Monitor the global and regional asphalt markets and shipping industries. Maintain relationships with potential suppliers, shippers, and customers, including but not limited to meeting regularly with them in person. Obtain approval of GLP Board of Directors on specific purchases based on projected customer demand, supply opportunities, facility maintenance schedules and inventory holding costs.
3. Manage credit accounts of customers and follow up with payments due.
4. Forecast and control operating budget over $20MM. Routinely provide updates on projected financial performance to GLP Board of Directors.
5. Manage adherence to specific requirements associated with importation and distribution of asphalt (oil), including satisfaction of US Department of Homeland Security, US Department of Energy, US Department of Transportation, and HI Department of Agriculture rules and regulations.
6. Drive the terminal's quality control program including evaluation of incoming and outgoing materials, periodic testing, and review and distribution of analytical reports.
7. Represent Asphalt Hawaii in interactions with suppliers, customers, government agencies, industry organizations, and the public. As a supplier representative, take an active role in the global and local asphalt industries, including being a Director for Hawaii Asphalt Paving Industry and an active member of Asphalt Institute.
8. Promotes awareness of safety and environmental compliance procedures as required by law and industry standards.
9. Performs other duties as assigned.

PRINCIPAL REQUIREMENTS
1. Master's degree in Business, Engineering, or other relevant discipline.
2. In lieu of degree, 15+ years progressively responsible management experience in a similar operation, OR with a relevant degree, 10+ years of progressively responsible management experience in a similar operation.
3. Working knowledge of Word, Excel, Email: aptitude to learn automated in-house systems; keyboarding skills sufficient to complete daily tasks in a timely manner.
4. Excellent math skills to oversee, provide and/or generate critical business data.
5. Ability to read, comprehend and effectively communicate legal and/or technical information.
6. Ability to interact successfully with a broad range of audiences who may or may not be familiar with the technical, legal or business aspects of operating an asphalt terminal.
7. Exhibits a core understanding of mutual respect and good customer service orientation in interactions with all people in the workplace.
8. Blueprint reading preferred.
9. Valid Hawaii driver's license and favorable traffic abstract required.
10. Related certification(s), i.e., Transportation Worker Identification Credentials (TWIC) card and Marine Security (MARSEC) training certification preferred.
11. Excellent interpersonal skills to establish and nurture critical business relationships with internal and external customers.
12. Imitative and excellent organizational/documentation skills to ensure completion of corporate and/or self-established goals.
13. Able to work flexible hours as needed.
14. Must follow all safety and environmental compliance procedures as required by law and industry standards.
